Vital Record Fees

Note: California law limits the availability of certified copies of birth, death and marriage records to ”authorized persons.”

Those not authorized to receive a certified record may obtain an informational copy which cannot be used to establish identity. Informational copies are so designated, and will have signatures and social security numbers redacted.

  • Marriage Certificate
  • Note: The Recorder did not maintain copies of fetal death records prior to January 2008. Earlier records can be obtained through the California Department of Public Health.

    Requests by Mail:

    Orders should include the application form, fees and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Please indicate the number of certificates desired. Payment may take the form of a personal check or money order (International Money Order for out-of-country requests) made payable to the Kern County Recorder. DO NOT SEND CASH.
    Orders are typically fulfilled within 10 to 14 days.
